About ELICA MIWA

Elica Miwa is an international theatre artist, currently living in Tokyo, Japan.

Read English and American Literature at Keio University,

learned theatre and drama education at University of Victoria, Canada, as an exchange student,

then took MA in theatre from Royal Holloway College, University of London.

After working for Japanese Embassy in London in the international cultural relationship section, she joined Subaru Theatre Company in Tokyo as a theatre director.

Since then, she directs from straight plays, Shakespeare and other great classic plays, opera, ballet, and her original writing.

She is now a freelance theatre director, writer, and actress both in Japanese and English.

Major works and prizes;

Marlene  (Translation, Direction, and Set Design.  The leading actress won Kinokuniya Prize, one of the big three theatre prizes in Japan)

Flowers for Algernon  (Direction.  Won the best lighting awards from the Japan Lighting Designers Guild)

She writes and directs Playful Reading of Shakespeare series in Tokyo to attract wider audience to enjoy the works of Shakespeare.
